Matthew 8:20-22

Mt 8:21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."

Mt 8:22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, d and let the dead bury their own dead."

My question: What did Jesus mean in Mt 8:22, doesn't that seem harsh? What are your thoughts on the verse?

Here is one perspective I found in my research:

Let the spiritually dead bury the physically dead. The time of Jesus’ ministry was short and demanded full attention and commitment. This statement stresses the radical demands of Jesus’ discipleship, since Jews placed great importance on the duty of children to bury their parents.
